The Last Abortion Doctor
(general language disclaimer: people other than cis women benefit from and need access to abortion and reproductive health care; I use the “Trust Woman” slogan to honor the late Dr. Tiller, not to exclude)
Three years ago today, Dr. George Tiller, a hero to American women (and all Americans with uteri) and families, was shot in cold blood at his church, in an act of domestic terrorism. In the last two weeks alone, two reproductive health clinics and one organization were victims of arson. I’ve posted this article before, and will post it again, whenever I am moved to think of the courage it takes to work in the field of reproductive health. Caring, compassionate, tenacious doctors like Warren Hern and Leroy Carhart should not have to live in fear for their lives, clinics, homes, families, and patients, mourning their colleagues, surrounded by bodyguards, going home from work in armored cars. Yet our country, our culture, continues to ignore the reality that so called pro-life activism more often than not takes the form of harassment, abuse, coercion, deception, and in more cases than its political allies and leaders will ever admit, pure, unadulterated terrorism (arson, murder, death threats, bricks through bedroom windows, shootings) most of it tacitly and even openly excused or unpunished. I struggle for the words to express my outrage that since Dr. Tiller’s death, record numbers of anti-abortion laws have been passed across the country, we’ve so often taken seriously the question of whether or not bodily autonomy should be protected and assisted, said so little of the reality of anti-choice terrorism, and entertained justifications from the people who tacitly and openly created a climate in which Dr. Tiller’s death was seen as anything but the assassination of a tireless hero, a healer, and a blameless, much needed, compassionate pillar of our national medical community. Today, do whatever it is you do (meditate, reflect, pray, think, rant, rage against the machine) to honor the fallen heroes of the reproductive health community, the families they left behind, everyone who currently risks life and limb to serve patients in need of reproductive healthcare, and pay special attention to those rare, much-maligned specialists that take the most frightening of abuses (bullets, kidnappings, death threats, bricks) to serve the most difficult cases: the late term abortion providers. I struggle for words. Honor Dr. Tiller. Trust Women.

R.I.P. Dr. Tiller. And thank you. For everything.
Trust Women.

My man shaved
He shaved off his gorgeous, ridiculously hot full-face beard and left his mustache and little chin beard.
I don’t even want to admit how mad I am.
I’m just going to bed, this shit is whack.

Badass Bartender of the Day: Sure, Ukrainian bartender Alexander Shtifanov can put on a show. But how are his people skills?
[devour]
But can he make a good flying grasshopper? Recommend a good beer?
Not be a clown?

I really tried to capture his facial expression.
hahaha boy in outer space
maybe they just rub me wrong since they’re always explained by some pouty faced dude, but these posts always seem to roughly translate to,
“Dear girl, I know you must be insecure not because the world has told you a lot of specific instructions about how you have to dress and look a certain way in order to be happy and beautiful and to have people like you that is reflected and reinforced in all the tv and movies we watch, the magazines we buy, the commercials that air-
I know the real reason for your insecurity must be that not enough men have told you today that your face looks good no matter what you put on it. Now you feel better, right?”
It took me a couple of days to realize how much I appreciate this. That girl is NAILING IT.

BE QUIET, TIFFANY, BE QUIET! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? STOP IT! I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE YELLED AT A GIRL LIKE THIS. WHEN MY MOTHER YELLS LIKE THIS IT’S BECAUSE SHE LOVES ME. I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU, WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU. HOW DARE YOU? LEARN SOMETHING FROM THIS. WHEN YOU GO TO BED AT NIGHT, YOU LAY THERE AND YOU TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELF, ‘CAUSE NOBODY’S GONNA TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOU. YOU ROLLIN’ YOUR EYES AND YOU ACTING LIKE THIS BECAUSE YOU’VE HEARD IT ALL BEFORE. YOU’VE HEARD IT ALL BEFORE, YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE THE HELL I COME FROM, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’VE BEEN THROUGH. BUT I’M NOT A VICTIM, I GROW FROM IT, AND I LEARN. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELF.
